In the Hands of a First-Time Mother

"She gave birth to her first child, a son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no room available for them." Luke 2:7

Mary laid her baby, Jesus, in a manger. Can you imagine her anxious thoughts? How would she care for this precious baby? How would she protect him in this broken world? It is amazing to me that the Father would trust his plan to the hands of a fumbling first-time mother. I think about Mary holding baby Jesus in her arms and I'm sure she never thought of a Cross that would mark his path.

"Don't be afraid!" he said. "I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people." Luke 2:10

In a week of great pain and heartache, the excited clamor of Christmas was broken by the tragic loss of sons, daughters and mothers in Newtown, CT. Jesus, send your Holy Spirit to comfort these families. 

"Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased." Luke 2:14

We often want to battle with God on the issues of pain and suffering. God almost never does things the way I would do them. I would take up my sword and fight, he would lay down his glory for a manger.

An upside down solution to the incredible brokenness of the world. A tiny babe in a young woman's arms sent to rescue a fallen world. A King who conquers his foe by dying a criminal's death on a cross.

Jesus, I surrender to you. This problem is much bigger than I am, I cannot fix it, I lay it at your feet. I trust you.

Praise God that our hunger and thirst for Justice is satisfied in Jesus.
